Can i get applications on my ipod touch without updating to the new ipodtouch/iphone software 2.1?

Iphone applications
ohshizclarissa asked:

i can download applications to my itunes but when i sync my ipod with my itunes, the apps dont show up on my ipod touch.
itunes keeps suggesting i get the new ipod touch/iphone software [2.1], but it costs $10
but in the description, it says you can get all these apps etc
but my friend had the old, free, iphone software and she got apps on her iphone, but she downloaded them on her iphone, to her iphone instead of on itunes to her iphone. she has an icon that says “applications” and she can download from there. but thats the iphone not the ipodtouch
help im so confused!
no,
its not jail breaking
its legal.
itunes sells applications
but offers some of them for free and it even says its for the iphone AND ipod touch..
i downloaded some free ones from itunes

Yes you can. You can “jailbreak” your ipod touch which allows you to install 3rd party applications onto the ipod. Doing this voids any type of warranty it might have though.
