Is it true that you can only purchase extra applications for iPhone and NOT for iPod Touch?

I just purchased an iPod Touch, and now I am questioning if this was such a good idea. Firstly, I see many vids on youtube of people with TONS of iPhone apps (that look like they have been purchased separately). I phoned Apple, and they said “what you see [on iPod Touch] is what you get”. To add to this, there is no way to copy & paste. There is no camera. It just seems like I payed a heck of a lot money, for very very limited services. I have been a diehard Mac user forever, but this iPod Touch has made me question a few things… I have also seen ways to “jailbreak” or hack the iPod Touch, so it can have iPhone Apps downloaded, but i REALLY do not want to void the warranty. Perhaps there is something I am missing here?
ps. How do I change the background picture of the main screen (from black to something else), and can i/how do i personalize the main screen?
That’s the thing guys, is that i am WILLING to pay for extra applications, but everytime I call Apple, they say there is no way to do this for iPod Touch. In fact, the guy i just talked to said he didn’t know anything about adding applications to iPhone either, even though he’s in the iPod service department. Perhaps one you Yahoo’ers can help me out?
